Company
Profile
Our
still present Managing Director, Jim Lawson, established
the company in 1952.
Over
the years the company has grown and diversified into the
successful limited company we are today.
We
now have a fleet of over 45 trucks, 4 with Hiab lorry mounted
cranes, and access to over a 100 trailers. These comprise
42 ft flat beds, extendable up to 120 ft, low loaders, step
frame, curtain side and tipping trailers.
As
we have grown, we have added to our haulage fleet, six all
terrain mobile cranes, ranging from 15 to 80 tonnes and
various items of heavy plant.
We
have recently purchased another livestock trailer, which
was built to the highest specification for this type of
transport.
Our
business began locally, mainly transporting livestock and
agricultural products, but we soon realised the potential
market for other haulage and began to transport rail, pig
iron and furnace bricks for the then British Steel Corporation.
Over the years we have added dedicated trailers to our fleet
for the heavy specialised haulage of rail and associated
rail products.
We
have grown into a national and occasionally international
company hauling rail and other products.
We
are equipped for and willing to carry anything requested,
but specialise in carrying rail, timber, building products,
tractors and heavy plant and in carrying bulk materials
such as scrap metal, coal, stone, sand and fertilisers.
Some
of the less common items we have been requested to carry
have ranged from caravans, boats and trains to windmills
and even a giant carved stone sheep!
We
have a large workforce mainly from the local area, but we
are currently also recruiting from futher afield as we expand
geographically.
New
larger workshops were purpose built built ten years ago
to carry out in house maintenance and fabrication. This
has allowed us to streamline the business and make us more
efficient.
Despite an unforseeable
future, our intention is to expand and prosper.
