About Us
Lawsons
Haulage Ltd., a family run business based in Cockermouth,
Cumbria, started in 1952. It's immaculate fleet of
around 50 vehicles and over 100 trailers are seen
the length and breadth of the country, with a wide
variety of cargoes.
The company specialises in Specialist and General Haulage, All Terrain
Mobile Crane Services and Plant Hire equipment, with the full consultation
and qualified supervisory services to accompany all jobs.
Lawsons is managed by Jim and Eileen Lawson, who started the business,
ably assisted by sons Colin and Raymond and daughter Pauline. Raymond
also manages the Plant and Crane Hire side of the business.
Although most of the haulage work is on
specialist flat trailers, the company also
has several tippers, carrying fertiliser,
coal and
gravel. More recently mobile crane and plant hire services have
been added to the company profile.
The individually named fleet of mainly Scania, DAF and Volvo are
regular participants at Truck shows around the country and have won
many awards for their immaculate appearance and high standard of
maintenence, carried out in their own workshops by their own engineers.

The
founder of the company, Mr Jim Lawson in the mid 1950's
with one of the first vehicles. In the early days the
movement of farm animals was a large part of the business
and this continues today with the recent purchase a superb
new state-of-the-art cattle trailer. |
Jim
Lawson with the very first lorry to be tested at
the vehicle testing station at Lillyhall in 1983
- it passed!
Likewise, when the first part of the M6
motorway, the Preston Byepass, was opened a Lawsons
Lorry driven by Jim was the first HGV to pass along
it.
For several years a popular event in Cockermouth
was the annual "Lorry Pull", where local
teams competed to pull one of Lawson's immaculate
lorries along a measured course on the main street.
There was even a children's team!
